Weekends are always hard for me to be cognoscente of my eating habits. It's probably more of a habit than anything, a bad habit that I am looking forward to breaking. I am definitely a person who gets into a routine and then begins to follow that routine most of the time even unaware of what I am doing.
Recently, I have begun a routine/habit of on carpooling days (I drive my son and friends 12 miles to school) Tuesdays it seems we are always in a rush to get to school, My son has Occupational Therapy before school and after dropping him off, I drive the rest of the kids to school drop them off and then head back to the OT's office, after that appointment we drive to the Therapist where my 2 kids have Therapy for 2 hours. I am grateful for this time in the waiting room to help me get refocused and I am able to do a lot of reading during this time. But it never fails after Therapy, which is around 11 am. Everyone is hungry (usually because we have been rushing so much in the morning that we haven't had breakfast yet) and I am often asked the question "mom, can we get breakfast" lately I have been been giving into this request and have found the past couple of weeks that I am the one who has actually taken them to grab something, even without them asking.
This weekend was much of the same. Friday dad comes home from work and we are all excited for a weekend together, what better way to celebrate than to go out to dinner, right? So this week we did it big (since Monday is the big day) we took everyone out for a Chinese buffet. I'm embarrassed to say there was lots of fried, sauced up and yummy food there, but after my last bit of food I started to feel sick and not enjoy the tastes any longer. We left feeling full and tired.
On Saturday my plan was to stay home and organize, clean and get ready for the week. We needed to make a run to Home Depot and a few other stores and while out and about we were all hungry (again, because most of us didn't grab breakfast). So on the way home we stopped and got pizza, chicken wings and soda. I did make a stop to Smiths where I picked up some salad mix, but couldn't pass up the chocolate cake and dorritos that were on sale. (UGH) I am sickened by my decisions.
Everyone was happy with our selections, especially the kids. Dorritos Really?!! and Chocolate cake too!! The pizza and soda was devoured in a matter of hours and that evening we were left with dorritos and chocolate cake. So I suggested we have something a little healthy (skinny burritos) organic and semi healthy, but mostly a quick and easy meal as I was exhausted from spending the entire afternoon cleaning and organizing the garage.
Later that night we watched a family movie, and I fell asleep on the couch. I have not been feeling right for the past couple of days. To get personal my bowels have not been working right, I feel my thyroid is completely out of whack, I have had intermittent times of where I thought I might be on my period and I ache and feel flu like most of the time. Not to mention my hair seems like it's thinning, my skin is dry and I have been having puffiness again.
So as I write this it's Sunday morning. Today is another big day. I serve in my church and have 2 chapels I need to attend this morning. But I have to say I am junk fooded out! All I want right now is fresh, juicy fruit and vegetables. So my plan is to take a nice hot bath with some relaxing music, eat a healthy breakfast and go about my day. I think I may start this journey 1 day early. Today sounds like a good day to start!

A little about our Family
John and I have been married for 20 years. After 10 years of fertility treatments and lots of testing and doctors we were finally able to have a beautiful baby girl, who is now 12 years old. In 2012 we adopted a handsome 10 year old boy, and this year we will be adopting a beautiful 4 year old girl.
Our life has been filled with many blessings and we have learned many things on our journey through life. About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Hoshimoto's/Hypothyroid. I was told that I was destined to be on medications for the rest of my life. I visited many doctors hoping to find the perfect medication or remedy for the swelling, tiredness, hair falling out, aches and pains, and a slew of other health problems I was feeling. Each doctor visit I went to, I would find myself more and more frustrated with the advice and medical care that they were giving me. In 2007 after doing a lot of research I came across an article listing a Doctor in California that was very knowledgeable on Hoshimotos and helping those with thyroid disorders. I immediately called their office and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Kadada in San Francisco. I went to my appointment, was measured, weighed and wrote up a blood work order. I then came back to Reno and had my blood drawn until I literally felt like I had no more blood left in me. Dr. Kadada was very thorough and from that point on we continued with over the phone consultations/dr. visits. He put me on a compound thyroid medication and although my blood work levels came back still elevated, it seemed to be working. After 2008 the economy declined and our family was affect, we were forced to sell our home and move into a rental. During this time I was not able to make the trips to California or pay for the phone consultations as they were quite expensive. For 1 year I was completely off medication and shortly thereafter found myself in the ER with an elevated heart rate of 150+ and high blood pressure. The doctors ran tests and I was released the same day with a follow up with a specialist. EKG's were done, stress tests and medication given to help with my fast heart rate, but nothing was found wrong other than my fast heart rate. The specialist took me off the heart medication and I was released to go back home with follow up appts.
I began taking cayenne 3x a day and took dairy out of my diet. I was told to continually monitor my heart rate and blood pressure at home. Within 2 weeks my blood pressure had dropped down to 120/80 and my heart rate was between 89 and 99 bpm. It has been 2 years since all of this happened and I am continuing my journey to better health. I continue to take cayenne, although not consistent I take it often. I have since started taking Marshmellow and astragulus for my auto immune disease and Dr. Christopher's thyroid herbs to help with rebuilding my thyroid. I continue to not eat dairy, although I do cheat every once in awhile and have recently taken gluten out of my diet. I have felt that each of these things have helped me and my symptoms but I am continually searching for a way to rid myself of Hoshimotos, lose weight and feel healthy again.
As I have been researching there is one thing I have found in common among may opinions, research and studies. Auto-immune disease/Hoshimotos sufferers should avoid the following:
Sugar, Dairy, Gluten, Soy, Corn and processed foods
They should also treat and heal their leaky gut and Candida, as well as cleanse the liver.
So with all of this information and a lot of prayer I have decided to start this journey in hopes that I might be able to heal myself as well as maybe help others. Which will also benefit my family as well. Our adopted son suffers with ADHD and a myriad of learning disabilities, as well as sensory disorder and PTSD. I have found that many of these same dietary protocols are needed for his health as well.
Although I know it's going to be at times a difficult journey, I am very excited to see how we feel as we follow this plan.
I will be posting recipes I will be using for our 30 day challenge here on my blog. My hopes is that we will enjoy this way of eating so much that it will become a part of us and we will continue to eat this way. The following are the guidelines for our families 30 day meal plan.
I am excited for this journey and excited to feel healthy again!

1. Eat All the organic fruits and vegetables we want. (no potatoes)
(for myself also eliminating tomatoes, mushrooms, eggplant and bell peppers for the 30 days)
2. Cook and use only Coconut oil or Olive oil
3. No sugar of any kind (no honey, maple, agave, etc..)
4. No grains
5. No beans (after 30 days sprouted beans only)
6. No dairy
7. Nuts - sprouted only
8. Organic meats & eggs only (no eggs for me)
9. Fermented foods
Exercise everyday burning a minimum of 500 calories per day
Continue with Marshmallow/Astragulus & thyroid herbal complexes
Begin Dr.Christophers leaky gut protocol
After 24 days begin Dr. Christopher's liver cleanse
I am hopeful that this will be the right formula for my body to heal. I know that our bodies are capable of healing when we feed it what it needs.
